Nairobi City County has announced new land rates and valuation rules set to take effect from January 1, 2027, impacting property owners across the city.

• The new structure includes flat annual charges for land based on size, ranging from Ksh2,560 for plots not exceeding 0.1 hectare to Ksh4,800 for land exceeding 0.4 hectares.
• A uniform annual rate of 0.115% will apply to residential, commercial, and agricultural plots based on the 2019 Draft Valuation Roll.
• Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja is also intensifying efforts to recover approximately Ksh50 billion in unpaid land rates by appointing debt recovery firms due to poor compliance.
