Over 11,000 pharmaceutical technologists are threatening to go on strike over new guidelines from the Pharmacy and Poisons Board that would restrict their practice in certain health facilities.

• New guidelines will restrict pharmaceutical technologists with diploma-level qualifications from practicing in Level Three to Six health facilities, limiting them to dispensaries.
• The Kenya Pharmaceutical Association and Kenya National Union of Pharmaceutical Technologists are protesting the guidelines, calling them discriminatory and a threat to Universal Health Coverage.
• The Cabinet Secretary for Health stated that no practitioners will be barred if they obtain necessary qualifications and licensing, and that the new standards aim to strengthen patient safety and address unethical practices.
