A dispute is ongoing between the Kenya Copyright Board (Kecobo) and Collective Management Organisations (CMOs) over the collection and management of artiste royalties, with allegations that Kecobo is unfairly favouring Performing and Audio-Visual Rights Society of Kenya (Pavrisk).

• Kecobo directed Pavrisk to collect royalties from sectors previously assigned to Kenya Association of Music Producers (Kamp) after suspending Kamp's license over alleged diversion of Sh5.5 million.
• Both Pavrisk and other CMOs like MCSK and Kamp have faced scrutiny from the Copyright Tribunal regarding compliance with regulations, including financial management and distribution of royalties.
• Kamp accuses Kecobo of selective enforcement, pointing out that Pavrisk has not held elections since 2018 while Kamp's license was suspended shortly after its 2022 elections.
