The Regional Centre for Mapping of Resources for Development (RCMRD), with support from Amazon Web Services (AWS), is empowering 24 African countries to map and protect biodiversity and meet global conservation targets.

• The initiative aims to help countries achieve the goal of protecting at least 30% of their land and water by 2030, as part of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.
• Key organizations involved include the RCMRD and AWS, providing a cloud-based geospatial platform and infrastructure.
• Since launching in October 2024, the platform has trained over 5,000 individuals in geospatial technologies and strengthened regional cooperation through data-sharing agreements.
