Kenya's public wage bill has reached a staggering Sh1.3 trillion, with 42 county governments exceeding the recommended 35 percent threshold for personnel costs.

• The total public wage bill stood at Sh1.287 trillion by the end of the 2025/26 financial year, a 30 percent increase over five years.
• The Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) published the latest figures in their Fourth Quarter Wage Bill Bulletin.
• The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) remains the largest public sector employer, recording the highest employment growth.
