President William Ruto has issued directives requiring foreign nationals operating small businesses to regularize their immigration, work permit, and business registration status within a 90-day window. The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) has warned against a blanket crackdown on foreign traders, citing potential human rights violations. Senator Danson Mungatana strongly condemned reported anti-Burundi attacks in Kenya, urging swift action against those organizing xenophobic incidents. Principal Secretary Korir Sing'oei apologised to Burundian nationals for harassment experienced due to confusion surrounding the crackdown, assuring the Burundian community of increased security as they regularise their documentation. The Government Spokesperson warned against the harassment and intimidation of foreign nationals, instructing security agencies to protect documented foreign nationals and those undergoing registration from arbitrary mistreatment.
