President William Ruto has urged developers of the Mombasa Special Economic Zone (SEZ) to prioritize building factories and creating jobs, moving beyond mere agreements.

• The SEZ aims to transform Mombasa from a transit point into a manufacturing, processing, and logistics hub, breaking Kenya's pattern of exporting raw materials and importing finished goods.
• The agreement for the zone was signed on Tuesday, September 8, between the County Government of Mombasa, Mombasa Free Zone Ltd, and DP World.
• The Government plans to offer investors a preferential electricity tariff of Sh10 per kilowatt-hour to lower production costs.
