Transport Cabinet Secretary David Chirchir announced that the Rironi-Naivasha section of the highway will be fully dualled by October 30, 2026. This marks an accelerated timeline for the project, which is part of the larger Rironi-Mau Summit highway expansion.

The Rironi-Naivasha section is expected to be completed within the next one and a half months from the announcement date (September 9).
The project is a Ksh183 billion Public-Private Partnership involving China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) for the initial phase.
Once fully dualled, the highway will implement a tolling model with rates of Ksh8 per kilometre (Rironi-Naivasha) and Ksh8.50 per kilometre (Naivasha-Mau Summit).
