A new report warns that Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly advancing, outstripping the development of regulations and safety measures, and presenting growing risks.

• The 2026 International AI Safety Report identifies risks including deliberate misuse, unintentional malfunctions, and systemic issues from widespread AI deployment.
• AI systems are being adopted faster than previous technologies, with 700 million people using leading AI systems weekly, though adoption is uneven globally, below 10 per cent in much of Africa, Asia, and Latin America.
• Harmful incidents involving AI-generated content, such as scams, fraud, and non-consensual imagery, have increased substantially since 2021 due to the ease and low cost of creating such material.
