National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah has criticized what he terms as "sponyo" politics, advocating for politicians to be supported with ideas that benefit ordinary Kenyans rather than financial backing for political battles.

• Ichung’wah stated that politicians should be "sponsors of farmers," providing seeds, fertilizer, and market access, instead of being "sponsors of politicians who have no policies and direction."
• The remarks were made during the launch of the Kieni West Onion Farmers Cooperative, following former President Uhuru Kenyatta's acceptance of the "sponyo" (sponsor) label at a funeral.
• Ichung’wah contrasted the current administration's achievements, such as the Social Health Authority (SHA) enrolling 32 million Kenyans, with perceived failures of the previous government.
