Water and Sanitation Cabinet Secretary Eric Mugaa has explained that some Kenyans are facing high water bills from the Water Resources Authority (WRA) due to incomplete water abstraction permit applications.

• Users without fully approved permits and active meters are billed an estimated Ksh10 per 1,000 litres, a higher rate than those with completed permits.
• The WRA charges approved permit holders between Ksh2 and Ksh2.50 per 1,000 litres depending on water usage purpose.
• CS Mugaa urged the public to install and maintain meters and highlighted the government's push for smart, GSM-enabled water meters for efficient monitoring.
