A 65-year-old Rwandan man living in north London has become the first person in the UK to be charged with offences related to the 1994 Rwanda genocide.

• The accused, formerly known as Dr Vincent Bajinya and now Dr Vincent Brown, faces one charge of conduct ancillary to genocide and six charges of conduct ancillary to murder as a crime against humanity.
• The charges were brought by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) following a seven-year investigation by the Metropolitan Police's War Crimes Team, prompted by a request from the Rwandan government.
• An estimated 800,000 ethnic Tutsis and moderate Hutus were killed during the 1994 genocide over 100 days.
