NACADA, in conjunction with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) and the Department of Public Health, has ordered the closure of two rehabilitation facilities in Murang’a County due to severe regulatory and human rights violations.

• Two facilities, Listening Heart Wellness Centre and SMECC Rehab, were found to be operating without proper licensing and in inhumane conditions.
• NACADA CEO Dr. Anthony Omerikwa stated that facilities endangering clients or subjecting them to inhumane treatment have no place in the rehabilitation ecosystem.
• Violations included operating without licenses, poor hygiene, overcrowding, admitting underage clients, and physically confining clients in inhumane conditions, with allegations of client abduction and staff assault.
