The African Union has welcomed the resumption of diplomatic ties between Rwanda and Belgium, highlighting the importance of diplomacy and dialogue.

• The African Union Commission Chairperson, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, praised the move as a demonstration of the value of diplomacy in overcoming differences.
• The ties were previously cut in March 2025, when Rwanda accused Belgium of supporting groups spreading genocide denial and taking sides in a regional conflict.
• Qatar played a constructive role in facilitating the dialogue that led to the resumption of relations.
