The National Assembly has rejected a Bill that aimed to issue national identity cards and register secondary school students aged 18 and above as voters while still in school.

• The Registration of Persons (Amendment) Bill, 2025, sponsored by Suba South MP Caroli Omondi, was rejected due to concerns about disrupting learning.
• The National Assembly’s Administration and Internal Security Committee argued that mass registration during the school calendar risks disrupting educational activities.
• The committee also noted that the proposal would exclude other eligible individuals, such as out-of-school youth and those in vocational training.
