Kenyan lawyer and former Justice Minister Martha Karua is suing the Ugandan government after being deported from Uganda. She sought to represent opposition leader Kizza Besigye in court.

• Martha Karua, alongside the Uganda Law Society, is challenging the June 22 decision to deny her entry and declare her a "persona non grata".
• Ms Karua was denied entry at Entebbe International Airport after obtaining a Special Practising Certificate to represent Dr Besigye and Hajji Obeid Lutale.
• The applicants argue the decision was unlawful and made without providing Ms Karua a hearing.
