The Environment and Land Court has ordered the recovery of a Sh25 million parcel of public land in Mombasa, illegally allocated to a former politician in 1994.

• The land, part of a public road reserve known as Machakos Street, was wrongly allocated for residential development.
• The court found that the necessary legal procedures for closing a public road were not followed, citing a lack of gazette notices and proper records of objections.
• The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) led the case, alleging abuse of office by former council officials.
• The property is currently being used as a parking lot.
