Sifuna Declares Raila-Ruto MoU Missed March 7 Deadline
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has stated that the March 7 deadline for implementing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Raila and Ruto has passed. The MoU included a 10-point reform agenda and aimed to establish a broad-based government. Additionally, a fresh political clash has erupted over the implementation status of the 10-point agenda, with factions of the ODM party disagreeing on the way forward following political realignments ahead of the 2027 General Election. In contrast, the Orange Democratic Movement faces internal division as a planned National Delegates Convention (NDC) on March 27 is challenged legally, potentially derailing the party's preparations for 2027. At the same time, Sifuna is reportedly making significant inroads in Western Kenya, a region historically crucial for presidential bids, sparking questions about his influence over traditional power structures and whether he is undermining Moses Wetangula's influence in the region.
Azimio Coalition Purges Dissidents Amid Political Realignments
The Azimio coalition has undergone a significant shake-up, purging members perceived as dissidents and reconstituting its leadership councils. Separately, Martha Karua, leader of the People's Liberation Party (PLP), has blamed major political parties like the UDA and ODM for the stalled progress on Kenya's two-thirds gender rule. Meanwhile, Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga is facing a critical week as she prepares to nominate a new Deputy Governor following the resignation of Oyugi Magwanga on February 26.
