Kenyan League Disruptions Feared as Nyayo and Kasarani Stadiums Close for Upgrades
League disruptions are expected in Kenya as Kasarani and Nyayo stadiums are scheduled for closure and upgrades in preparation for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon). This will force some matches to be played at alternative venues. Despite the upcoming closure, Nyayo Stadium is set to host the Nairobi Sevens this weekend, where the Kenya Lionesses will compete. The disruptions will affect competitions such as the SportPesa League. In that league, Gor Mahia recently swept the January awards, with Paul Ochuoga named Player of the Month and Charles Akonnor receiving the Coach of the Month award.
Boxing, School, and Golf Tournaments Underway Across Kenya
A series of sporting tournaments are getting underway in Kenya. Following the conclusion of the National Novice Boxing Championships, Kenyan counties are preparing for individual County Intermediate Championships over the next two weeks. This will serve as a selection for the National Intermediate Boxing Championships scheduled for February 26-28 in Nairobi. In school sports, the 2026 Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) Term One Games are set to begin, with teams competing for a chance to represent Kenya at the FEASSA Games in Morogoro, Tanzania. Additionally, the Mombasa Golf Club is set to host a two-day Captain's Prize tournament organized by its outgoing captain, which is expected to draw over 240 players.
