Gov’t embarks on planting 1.7 million trees to reclaim Sorget forest
Government Begins Construction of Suneka Airstrip and Rehabilitation of Sorget Forest - August 2025
The government has begun construction on the stalled Suneka Airstrip in Kisii County, a development that follows a recent meeting between Gusii leaders and President William Ruto. Separately, the government has launched a significant rehabilitation project in Sorget forest in Kericho county. This project aims to restore over two thousand hectares of degraded land by planting 1.7 million trees. In another initiative, Lands Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome announced that the Olkalou lands registry in Nyandarua is expected to be fully operational within the next 90 days.
