Landslides in Elgeyo Marakwet Kill 21 as Heavy Rains Cause Flooding Across Kenya - November 2025
Heavy rains across Kenya have triggered devastating mudslides and floods, resulting in multiple fatalities. In Elgeyo Marakwet County, particularly in the Chesongoch area of Kerio Valley, landslides have claimed at least 21 lives, with another 30 individuals still unaccounted for. The death toll from the Elgeyo-Marakwet landslide progressively rose from 10 to 20, and then to 21 confirmed fatalities. A separate report stated that heavy rains have caused the deaths of at least 13 people across Kenya. In Trans Nzoia County, flooding from the River Sabwani bursting its banks has displaced over 300 families.
