Legal Disputes Threaten Kenya Kwanza Health Insurance and US-Kenya Health Agreement - January 2026

A legal dispute originating in Milimani courts is threatening to nullify the Kenya Kwanza government's health insurance plan. In a separate matter, people living with HIV in Kenya are expressing disapproval of legal challenges aimed at halting a significant US-Kenya health cooperation agreement. The agreement is described as crucial for programs that combat HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria. Amidst these legal challenges, the Ministry of Health has launched a national plan to combat cervical cancer from 2026–2030. This new initiative aims to address the significant public health challenge posed by cervical cancer in Kenya.
