Opposition leaders tell Ruto to stop targeting Uhuru
Ruto Accuses Uhuru of Sponsoring Opposition for 2027 Election - August 2026
President William Ruto has accused retired President Uhuru Kenyatta of financially sponsoring Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and the Opposition, urging him to provide adequate funds rather than allowing them to solicit donations from ordinary Kenyans. This accusation comes amid resurfacing tensions between Ruto and Kenyatta following Kenyatta's rejection of Ruto's Beyond Vision 2030 Plan. Opposition leaders including Kalonzo Musyoka, Rigathi Gachagua, and Dr. Fred Matiang'i have accused President Ruto of unfairly targeting the retired President in his ongoing political disputes. Meanwhile, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has pledged that the government will uphold peace and security as the nation gears up for the 2027 General Election.
