Plans for Compensating Protest Victims Announced Amid Scrutiny - August 2025

Victims of police brutality during recent protests in Kenya are slated to receive compensation payouts starting next month. In response to these events, the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) is advocating for increased compensation and is calling for a special committee to re-examine the cases of those affected. Concurrently, rights defenders are questioning President Ruto’s plan to establish a taskforce aimed at overseeing the compensation process for these victims.
