A man known as "Senator," the alleged mastermind behind an illegal electricity network, has been arrested by detectives attached to the Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) after years of operating a clandestine underground system.

• This illegal operation cost Kenya Power over Ksh110.7 million in lost revenue and damages.
• The suspect had supplied unmetered electricity to over 21 borehole pumps for Miraa farms, primarily in the Igembe North and South areas.
• The network’s activities led to the damage of 14 transformers, costing Ksh21 million for replacements.

A tragic multi-vehicle crash on the Nairobi-Mombasa highway at Kwa Mautiiyo in Malili on Saturday, August 16, resulted in two fatalities and three injuries. The accident involved a trailer, a pick-up truck, and another trailer, which collided after the pick-up reportedly attempted to overtake.

• The victims included a driver from one of the trailers and a 25-year-old man from the pick-up.
• The injured were rushed to Machakos Level 5 Hospital.

A horrific incident in Ngurubani town, Kirinyaga County, saw a man allegedly murder his wife and two young children before attempting suicide on the night of August 15. Separately, a 36-year-old married man in Thika, Kiambu County, is in custody for the fatal stabbing of his 20-year-old college student girlfriend.

• In Kirinyaga, neighbors were alerted by screams, finding the house ablaze and the suspect, the family's patriarch, emerging with severe burns and a rope around his neck; three bodies, believed to be the wife and two children, were found burned beyond recognition inside.
• One neighbor heard the children saying, "don't stab mum with a knife" before the fire.
• In Thika, the victim, a campus student, was found with a fatal stab wound to the neck inside the suspect's house.
• Police are investigating domestic disputes as possible motives in both cases.
