Legislators Challenge President Ruto Over Bribery Claims; Kericho Governor Faces Impeachment - August 2025
Members of the Senate County Public Accounts Committee (CPAC), led by Chairperson Moses Kajwang’, are demanding that House Speakers summon President William Ruto to provide evidence for his claims of bribery involving Members of Parliament and Senators. Following renewed accusations of corruption by President Ruto, National Assembly sittings were paralyzed on Tuesday as MPs boycotted committee business. Ruto alleged some MPs accepted bribes, citing a Sh10 million payment related to anti-money laundering legislation. Separately, Kericho County Governor Erick Mutai is facing a second impeachment attempt for alleged abuse of office. The Kericho County Assembly delivered its decision to the Senate on August 18, 2025, after 33 out of 47 members voted in favor of the motion.
