Senate to Decide on Governor Mutai's Impeachment and Swears In Senator Wakwabubi - August 2025
The Senate is set to decide the fate of impeached Kericho Governor Eric Mutai during hearings scheduled for next week. Mutai and other parties must respond to allegations by Monday, August 25, at 5 PM. This is Governor Mutai's second impeachment attempt, after 33 out of 47 MCAs voted for his removal, placing his fate in the hands of the Senate. His first impeachment attempt was overturned by the Senate in October 2024. In a separate action on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, Senate Speaker Amason Kingi administered the oath of office to Consolata Nabwire Wakwabubi. Wakwabubi was sworn in as a nominated senator, replacing Gloria Orwoba, who was expelled from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
