President William Ruto has pledged that the government will cover half the cost of affordable housing units for Harambee Stars players. This initiative comes with the condition that the reward will be strictly housing units, not cash.

• The government will pay Ksh1 million per unit, which is half the Ksh2 million cost of a two-bedroom affordable housing unit.
• Players can choose to pay the remaining balance as a mortgage over 20 years, equating to a monthly payment of Ksh2,000 or Ksh3,000.
• The housing units are available in a town of choice, including Nairobi, Mombasa, and Kisumu.

President William Ruto announced that police recruitment, stalled for over three years, will resume next month, with 4,000 of 10,000 new positions reserved for National Youth Service (NYS) graduates. This decision aims to absorb disciplined NYS graduates into national service and other disciplined forces, including the Kenya Defence Forces, and affordable housing schemes.

• 10,000 new police officers will be hired, with 4,000 slots for NYS graduates.
• The recruitment, set for next month, follows a three-year hiatus due to budgetary constraints.
• NYS graduates will also receive priority in the Kenya Defence Forces and affordable housing programs.
• The National Police Service (NPS) will use a new online recruitment system to curb fraud.

The Kenyan government plans to relocate the Homa Bay GK Prison to facilitate the expansion of Tom Mboya University in Homa Bay County. This move, stemming from a directive by President William Ruto, will see 113 hectares of prison land transferred to the university for the construction of 5,000 housing units, including staff and student hostels.

• The State Department of Correctional Services Principal Secretary Salome Beacco confirmed the relocation process, stating the Attorney General has provided a legal framework.

• The prison will be moved to alternative land provided by the County Government of Homa Bay, with a public participation exercise and feasibility study to be conducted.

• President Ruto initially ordered the relocation to the Vast Lambwe valley, citing the availability of underutilised county land for the prison, rather than the previous location which could be better used for university expansion.
