The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Renson Ingonga, has explained that the withdrawal of high-profile cases, including those against politicians, is primarily due to preventing malicious prosecutions against the government and avoiding hefty litigation costs. He stated that failing to withdraw such cases would make the government liable for significant financial burdens.

• Affected individuals include former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, whose Ksh7.7 billion graft case was dropped, and Aisha Jumwa, current Chair of the Kenya Roads Board, with Ksh19 million embezzlement charges withdrawn.
• The DPP noted that the government often bears litigation costs when individuals sue and win, with funds coming from the Office of the DPP’s budget.
• The Ksh7.6 billion graft case against businessman Yagnesh Devani was also withdrawn due to insufficient evidence and witnesses.

Four traffic police officers were arrested on Thursday, August 28, by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) in an undercover operation along the Nairobi–Nyeri–Embu Highway over bribery allegations.

• The officers were reportedly soliciting and receiving bribes from motorists, matatu operators, and truck drivers.
• Three officers were from Makutano Traffic Base, and one was from Juja Traffic Base, all in Embu County.
• The arrests follow tips from the public regarding rampant extortion; officers face corruption-related charges.
• A recent EACC survey listed police officers as the most corrupt professionals in Kenya, with 47 per cent of reported corruption cases.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has summoned Bomet Governor Hillary Barchok, former Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati, and several associates for questioning over corruption allegations, with the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) consenting to their charges. They are ordered to appear at Integrity Centre on Monday, September 1, 2025.

• Governor Barchok faces charges of conflict of interest, having allegedly received Ksh2,750,000 from companies doing business with Bomet County.
• Former Governor Wangamati and his associates are accused of embezzling Ksh70,205,882 through private companies.
• The DPP has also ordered further investigation into corruption claims against Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi and Marsabit Governor Mohammed Mahamud Ali.
