Kericho Governor Erick Mutai Survives Second Impeachment Attempt in Senate - August 2025
The Senate voted to acquit Kericho Governor Erick Mutai, allowing him to survive a second impeachment attempt by the Kericho County Assembly in less than a year. Following the acquittal, Governor Mutai called for unity among Kericho leaders for the sake of development and the growth of the county. He extended an olive branch to Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) who had supported his ouster. However, the Governor also criticized the County Assembly Speaker, Patrick Mutai, and rebel MCAs for engaging in disruptive politics. This marks the second time Governor Mutai has overcome an impeachment motion initiated by the county assembly.
