Investigation Launched into SHA Health Insurance Scheme Fraud - September 2025
Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has handed over 1,188 files to the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) for an investigation into alleged fraud within the SHA health insurance scheme. Following the investigation, 85 hospitals have been closed for fraud. The probe was initiated after reports that billions of shillings were missing from the scheme, leading to Kenya's Ministry of Health, Afya House, being dubbed 'Mafya House.' Tetu MP Geoffrey Wandeto stated that a Ksh. 104 billion SHA system failed to prevent a Ksh. 10 billion fraud. Senator Khalwale has called for the arrest of CS Duale, Dr. Abdi Mohamed, and Mercy Mwangangi over an alleged KSh 24B SHA scandal, while Minister Duale has been seen evading questions from journalists.
