Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale announced that the Kenyan government will clear outstanding bills owed to healthcare facilities by the defunct National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) within the next two months. This comes after NHIF was replaced by the Social Health Authority (SHA).

• The initial repayment phase, totaling Ksh5.3 billion, will prioritize hospitals owed between Ksh1 million and Ksh10 million, which accounts for 92% of the total NHIF outstanding claims.
• The CS stated that an independent team has been formed to verify all pending bills exceeding Ksh10 million to prevent fraudulent claims.
• The announcement follows the submission of 1,188 files by the Social Health Authority (SHA) and the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) regarding alleged fraudulent healthcare practices.

The National Drought Management Authority (NDMA) announced a Ksh294,494,400 disbursement under the Hunger Safety Net Programme (HSNP), providing Ksh2,700 each to 109,072 households in eight arid Kenyan counties. This initiative aims to cushion vulnerable families from drought and poverty.

• Eight counties, including Garissa, Isiolo, Mandera, and Turkana, will benefit from the cash transfer.
• Mandera will receive the highest allocation of Ksh59.6 million for 22,102 households.
• The HSNP is part of the Kenya Social and Economic Inclusion Project (KSEIP), under the government’s broader Inua Jamii social protection programme.
• President William Ruto also announced significant infrastructure and development projects for arid regions, including Ksh2.3 billion for rural electrification.
