Land Disputes Emerge in Laikipia, Kitale, and Gatundu North - September 2025

In Laikipia, herders from the Tugen and Samburu clans have rejected an eviction notice from land they have used for grazing for an extended period. A separate land dispute has intensified in Kitale after the Prisons department unilaterally fenced off Nimaam estate, affecting residents of 42 affordable houses. Meanwhile, residents displaced by the Karimenu II dam project in Gatundu North, Kiambu County, are accusing the government of delaying their compensation. That project is crucial for the water supply to parts of Nairobi County.
