• The National Agroforestry Strategy is a 10-year plan designed to achieve 30% tree cover by 2032, establishing five million acres of woodlots in drylands.
• The initiatives were unveiled by Environment Cabinet Secretary Deborah Barasa from the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry on Wednesday, September 17.
• The FLRMF will track progress toward restoring 10.6 million hectares of degraded land by 2032, incorporating gender and social inclusion, and aligning with international frameworks like AFR100 and the Bonn Challenge.

The annual Africa Regional Centres of Excellence (ArcX) Forum in Nairobi, an initiative under the EU–Africa partnership, convened stakeholders from Africa and Europe to stress the critical role of science, technology, and innovation in accelerating Africa's green transition and sustainable development, particularly in managing natural resources.

• Dr. Robert Nasi, Director of Science at CIFOR-ICRAF, warned that Africa is losing its forests at an alarming rate, threatening agriculture, increasing unemployment, and damaging the tourism sector.
• The forum emphasized agroecology as a vital solution to boost food production, restore biodiversity, and build resilience to climate shocks.
• Stakeholders highlighted the need for credible data and effective monitoring systems to translate scientific research into political action, bridging the gap between knowledge and governance to inform decisions for Africa's future.

Kenya is launching a 10-year plan to restore the Mau Forest Complex, its largest water tower, starting with planting 4 million tree seedlings in the first phase.

• 4 million tree seedlings will be planted across 3,313 hectares in the first phase, beginning October 24, 2025.
• Environment Cabinet Secretary Deborah Barasa explained that restoring the Mau Forest Complex is an "economic necessity" for Kenya's energy, agriculture, and Vision 2030.
• The project, Mau Forest Complex Integrated Conservation and Livelihood Improvement Programme (MFC-ICLIP), is part of President William Ruto's 15 Billion Tree Growing Campaign and aims to benefit the Greater Horn of Africa.
