Kenya has launched two major initiatives, the National Agroforestry Strategy (2025–2035) and the Kenya Landscape and Ecosystem Restoration Monitoring Framework (FLRMF), to accelerate ecosystem restoration and promote agroforestry. These strategies aim to bolster climate resilience and sustainable land management across the nation.

• The National Agroforestry Strategy is a 10-year plan designed to achieve 30% tree cover by 2032, establishing five million acres of woodlots in drylands.
• The initiatives were unveiled by Environment Cabinet Secretary Deborah Barasa from the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry on Wednesday, September 17.
• The FLRMF will track progress toward restoring 10.6 million hectares of degraded land by 2032, incorporating gender and social inclusion, and aligning with international frameworks like AFR100 and the Bonn Challenge.

Kenya is launching a 10-year plan to restore the Mau Forest Complex, its largest water tower, starting with planting 4 million tree seedlings in the first phase.

• 4 million tree seedlings will be planted across 3,313 hectares in the first phase, beginning October 24, 2025.
• Environment Cabinet Secretary Deborah Barasa explained that restoring the Mau Forest Complex is an "economic necessity" for Kenya's energy, agriculture, and Vision 2030.
• The project, Mau Forest Complex Integrated Conservation and Livelihood Improvement Programme (MFC-ICLIP), is part of President William Ruto's 15 Billion Tree Growing Campaign and aims to benefit the Greater Horn of Africa.
