Kenya has been spared from a recent ban implemented by Tanzania on 15 business activities conducted by foreigners, bringing relief to Kenyan business owners. This decision follows constructive dialogue between the governments of Kenya and Tanzania.

  • The ban, announced in July by Tanzania's Minister for Industry and Trade, Selemani Saidi Jafo, targeted small and medium businesses including mobile money transfers, electronic repair, and salon services.
  • The State Department of the East African Community confirmed that no Kenyan business has been affected and none will be in the future.
  • Foreigners found violating the ban faced a fine of up to Tsh10 million (Ksh502,927) or a prison term not exceeding six months.
