KMPDU Threatens Strike Over Alleged Deaths of 136 Newborns in Kiambu County - October 2025
The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) has threatened a nationwide strike in 19 days, citing the alleged deaths of 136 newborn babies in Kiambu County. Kiambu County has vehemently denied these claims, accusing the union of exaggeration and malice. The union also postponed a planned demonstration in Kiambu from October 8 to October 13, 2025, to allow for broader stakeholder participation. This dispute is set against the backdrop of a strike by Kiambu health workers which has entered its fifth month. The situation also follows the redeployment of 697 medical interns from Kiambu County.
