Multiple Deaths from Stampede and Shooting Reported at Nyayo and Kasarani Stadiums - October 2025

A total of five people died at Kasarani Stadium and Nyayo Stadium during public mourning events. At Nyayo National Stadium, a tragic stampede resulted in two deaths and numerous injuries as thousands gathered to view the body of the late former Prime Minister. Separately, a fatal scuffle at Moi International Sports Center, Kasarani, resulted in at least three confirmed deaths after people were shot. Following the shooting, the families of the Kasarani victims are demanding justice. Already, four families have identified the bodies of their loved ones from the incidents at the two stadiums.
