Airtel Kenya has launched its 5G Smart Connect Outdoor Unit, a Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) solution designed to improve home internet connectivity, particularly by addressing poor indoor signal reception.

• The new outdoor unit is designed to complement Airtel's existing in-house 5G router, featuring a weather-resistant external antenna and an indoor receiver/router.
• Pricing for the service remains consistent with current Airtel 5G router users: KES 1,999/month for 15Mbps and KES 2,999/month for 30Mbps.
• An additional installation fee of KES 1,000 applies to the outdoor router, and customers must provide identification for SIM registration during installation.
• This move signals Airtel's strategic entry into the lucrative home internet market, leveraging 4G/5G as an alternative to fibre, especially in areas where laying cables is impractical.

AXIAN Telecom, through its subsidiary Yas, has officially acquired 99.63% of Wananchi Group (Holdings) Ltd, the parent company of Zuku and Simbanet. This acquisition significantly expands Yas's presence in East Africa's fixed broadband market.

• Wananchi Group controls 12.7% of Kenya's fixed internet market share as of June 2025, serving over 270,000 subscribers.
• The deal was completed on November 5, 2025, after being first reported in September 2024.
• CEO of AXIAN Telecom, Hassan Jaber, stated that Wananchi Group's network and expertise align with Yas's ambition to lead broadband connectivity in Africa.
