Safaricom recently hosted its third Cybersecurity Summit under the theme “Powering Progress. Securing Growth.” The event brought together various stakeholders to address the increasing cyber threats facing Kenya's digital landscape.

• Kenya recorded over 2.5 billion cyber threats in Q1 2025, a sharp increase from the previous quarter, according to the National KE-CIRT/CC.
• Peter Ndegwa, CEO of Safaricom, emphasized that cybercrime cannot be solved by a single institution and highlighted the summit's role in fostering collaboration.
• The summit coincided with Safaricom's 25th anniversary; the company now serves over 60 million customers across Kenya and Ethiopia.

Visa and the Mojaloop Foundation have partnered to bolster fraud prevention and risk management in Africa's digital payment ecosystem. This collaboration aims to integrate Visa's fraud expertise and secure payment technologies with Mojaloop's open-source platform to enhance trust and security in digital transactions.

• The partnership will integrate Visa’s Account-to-Account (A2A) Protect solution into the Mojaloop platform to add a layer of risk management for real-time transactions.
• Joanne Kubba, Senior Vice President, Government Affairs CEMEA, at Visa, stated the collaboration is a significant step towards safer and more inclusive digital payments.
• Visa has invested over $12 billion in fraud prevention over the past five years, blocking more than $40 billion in attempted fraud annually through AI-powered systems.
