Gachagua Accused of 2022 Blackmail While Making Magarini By-election Rigging Claims - November 2025

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki revealed that Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua secured the running mate position for William Ruto in 2022 through alleged blackmail, stating Gachagua threatened a last-minute walkout from UDA. Separately, Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has made accusations concerning the upcoming Magarini Constituency by-election scheduled for November 27, 2025. Gachagua accused Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Vice Chairperson Fahima Araphat Abdallah of interfering in the election and sent a letter to the IEBC chairperson. He also accused the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) of a secret plot to rig the polls. ODM leaders have strongly refuted Gachagua's allegations, dismissing them as fear-mongering tactics.
