IEBC Faces Scrutiny and Political Disputes Over Electoral Matters - November 2025
The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has called on the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to investigate former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua's remarks against IEBC Vice Chairperson Fahima Araphat Abdallah. Meanwhile, the IEBC is facing scrutiny after its chairman, Erastus Edung Ekethon, allegedly cleared a candidate for the Mbeere North parliamentary seat despite corruption concerns, raising questions about the commission's independence. Separately, Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leaders have refuted allegations from Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua. Gachagua accused them of a plot to rig the upcoming Magarini Constituency by-elections. ODM officials dismissed the claims as fear-mongering tactics ahead of the November 27 polls.
