EACC Proposes Blocking Politicians With Pending Appeals From 2027 Polls - March 2026
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) is proposing constitutional amendments to prevent individuals convicted of corruption and abuse of office from running for elections while their appeals are pending, ahead of the 2027 general elections. This follows the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions launching a nationwide drive to standardize corruption charges to enhance justice and integrity within Kenya's criminal justice system. Additionally, the Parliamentary Committee on Delegated Legislation has approved regulations for a new KSh2 billion special fund for the ODPP to significantly boost its capacity to deliver timely justice.
