Ruto, Oburu Form Coalition Team as Sifuna Faction Boycotts Meeting - March 2026
President William Ruto and ODM leader Oburu Oginga have formed an eight-member technical committee to plan a 2027 pre-election coalition and announced plans to compensate victims of police brutality by June using Sh2 billion. A faction supporting ODM party leader Edwin Sifuna will boycott a joint Parliamentary Group meeting convened by Ruto and Oburu, escalating tensions within the coalition discussions. Siaya Governor James Orengo has denied plans to leave the Orange Democratic Movement, clarifying that the Linda Mwananchi faction operates within the party while hinting at significant ODM developments in coming months. Meanwhile, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission is proposing amendments to prevent individuals convicted of corruption and integrity violations from running for political office in the 2027 General Election.
