KENYA: Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has fined and closed several petrol stations nationwide for selling adulterated or illegally diverted fuel.

• EPRA conducted 2,713 fuel quality tests across 758 stations between January and March 2026.
• Five stations were found non-compliant, facing penalties including fines up to Ksh435,100 and fuel impoundment.
• Violations included selling petrol mixed with kerosene, fuel with high sulphur, and diverting export-bound fuel for local sale.

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) is implementing significant reforms to boost road safety, particularly focusing on driver health and technological oversight.

• Drivers, especially of commercial and Public Service Vehicles (PSVs), will undergo mandatory regular medical checks covering vision, hearing, fatigue, and chronic illnesses.
• The NTSA will introduce enhanced digital monitoring systems, including telematics and GPS tracking, to track driver behavior in real-time.
• These measures are a response to the NTSA's Road Safety Status Report 2025, which highlights fatigue, medical conditions, and reckless driving as leading causes of accidents, with commercial vehicles being a significant contributor.

The Motorist Association of Kenya (MAK) has issued a stark warning to drivers, urging extreme caution on the Narok-Mai Mahiu road due to a rise in violent robberies.

• Criminals are reportedly using stones to obstruct vehicles on the climbing lanes, particularly near the Pirnyiny area between Ntulele and Ewuor Ekule.
• A driver was allegedly killed after attempting to remove these obstructions, with attackers armed with machetes.
• MAK advises motorists to avoid the route at night, travel in groups, or coordinate with local authorities for safer passage.
