The Social Health Authority (SHA) owes healthcare facilities a staggering Sh77 billion as of last year, with the debt continuing to grow according to Brian Lishenga, Chairman of the Rural and Urban Private Hospitals Association (RUPHA). Meanwhile, Kenyans are reportedly spending billions of shillings out-of-pocket to access essential healthcare services, indicating a significant financial burden on citizens for medical needs. Respiratory diseases have emerged as the leading ailment among patients covered by the State Health Insurance Fund (SHIF), according to a recent report. Additionally, questions are being raised about promised funds for cancer patients in Kenya, concerning the allocation and accessibility of financial aid intended for those battling the disease.
