The Kenyan government has launched a comprehensive crackdown on rising Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) and child abduction cases in the Central Region.
This initiative follows a high-level security meeting addressing critical protection issues.

• A 90-day Rapid Results Initiative (RRI) has been ordered to intensify interventions against SGBV.
• The initiative is spearheaded by Cabinet Secretary Hanna Wendot Cheptumo, Minister for Gender, Culture, the Arts and Heritage.
• A multi-agency team will be established at regional, county, and sub-county levels to strengthen coordination and response to crimes against children and SGBV.

Basic Education Principal Secretary Julius Bitok has directed school heads and education directors to strengthen communication and establish early warning systems to prevent school closures due to unrest.

• The directive follows several incidents of unrest, including dormitory fires, at schools such as Magerezani Academy and Kaumoni Boys High School.
• Principal Secretary Julius Bitok emphasized the need for improved dialogue between students, teachers, parents, and administrators to address grievances promptly.
• Schools are also urged to implement fair disciplinary measures and intensify efforts against drug and substance abuse, identified as triggers for unrest.

Magereza Academy in Nairobi has been closed indefinitely following a suspected arson incident that destroyed a dormitory and injured several learners.

• The fire reportedly broke out on Tuesday night around 8:00 PM.
• Four learners have been arrested and are assisting police with investigations, reportedly identified via CCTV footage.
• Injured students sustained injuries during a stampede, not from burns, as they fled the blaze.
