A nationwide matatu strike has commenced, causing significant disruption across Kenya with police clashing with protesters at Kihunguro along the Ruiru bypass. Commuters along Mombasa Road faced severe disruption and were forced to walk to work as the strike began this morning. Similar scenes played out in Kangemi, where residents were compelled to walk to their workplaces due to the lack of public transportation. At Kinoo along Waiyaki Way, commuters were stranded and unable to reach their destinations as the transport shutdown took effect. The strike follows threats from bus and matatu operators to halt services citing unresolved grievances with the government, with operators parking their vehicles at various stations including Shell petrol station along Waiyaki Way.
