Police clashed with protesters along the Kihunguro, Ruiru bypass today as a nationwide matatu strike commenced. Meanwhile, commuters along Mombasa Road were forced to walk to work as the strike kicked off this morning. In Mombasa, transport was significantly paralyzed as the majority of Public Service Vehicles joined the nationwide shutdown. Similarly, long-distance truck drivers in Makueni parked their vehicles in protest, halting transportation services across the country. Additionally, the Matatu Owners Association declared the strike would continue until fuel prices are lowered.
