Police Use Teargas to Disperse Protesters in Nairobi CBD - May 2026

Police dispersed protesters in Nairobi CBD today amidst demonstrations against soaring fuel prices. The protests escalated as demonstrators barricaded a section of Dagoretti Road and ignited bonfires. In Kitengela, protests also erupted leading to a complete standstill as demonstrators lit bonfires and blocked the Namanga Highway. In Kakamega, one protester was killed by police during demos over high fuel prices. Police in Eldoret also apprehended a number of youths who were reportedly attempting to loot during ongoing fuel protests.
