National Assembly Investigates Kibos Raw Sugar Imports Over Consumer Safety Concerns - June 2026
The National Assembly's Departmental Committee on Trade, Industry and Cooperatives is investigating the importation of thousands of tonnes of raw sugar, deemed unfit for direct human consumption, amid fears it could enter the local market. The Consumers Federation of Kenya has filed a lawsuit against the National Social Security Fund, challenging its directive for employers to continue enhanced employee deductions under the NSSF Act, 2013. The National Treasury plans a new Ksh145.6 billion Eurobond to address the 2026/27 budget shortfall and refinance an existing high-interest bond.
